About the Role

Fluidstack is building civilization-scale infrastructure for AI, focused on delivering 10 to 100s of GWs of compute faster than anyone else. This role is on the Thermofluids R&D Team, which tackles critical problems like rejecting massive amounts of heat and designing custom cooling machinery.

Responsibilities

  • Define machine requirements, owning the cycle model that sets working fluid, pressures, temperatures, and flows.
  • Design heat exchangers with surface areas in the millions of square meters.
  • Design the fluid system, including piping, valves, and headers, sized against pressure-drop budgets.
  • Run trade studies to decide machine parameters like air-side temperature rise and face velocity.
  • Reconcile cycle predictions with measured COP on the test stand and report discrepancies.
  • Own every thermofluids problem behind the fleet, including working fluid and cycle architecture, heat exchangers, two-phase heat transfer at the chip, and thermal energy storage.

Requirements

  • Built a thermodynamic cycle model from fluid properties up and defended its assumptions.
  • Sized real heat exchangers against published correlations and identified when a correlation was misapplied.
  • Calibrated a model against machine datasheet or test data and reported gaps honestly.
  • Written analysis that changed a design decision, in a readable format for non-coders.
  • Sized a relief path and signed off on system protection.
  • Held a result open when it was still open, rather than closing it early.
