About the Role

The Roadway Worker in Charge (RWIC) will provide on-site roadway worker protection for activities on and around live railroad tracks. This role involves job site coordination, dispatcher/train communication, and performing On Track Safety in controlled and non-controlled track areas.

Responsibilities

Provide jobsite protection consistent with rules, including radio communication with train dispatchers and engineers.
Ensure work groups are clear of limits during train movements.
Grant permission for trains and On Track equipment to proceed through limits.
Perform daily job briefings with all personnel and ensure adherence to safety requirements.
Prepare and submit required electronic forms, including job setup forms, daily work reports, and invoices.
Handle and place signs, derails, and other equipment weighing 15 to 90 pounds.
Actively participate in routine safety classes and qualification training.
Maintain high-level communication with RWIC supervisors and managers regarding assignments and schedules.
Contribute to a positive, inclusive, and respectful workplace culture.
Uphold the organization’s standards of integrity, accountability, and respect.
Adhere to all company policies, procedures, and applicable laws and regulations.
Perform other duties as assigned or required to meet business needs.

Requirements

Able to complete required physical demands and/or task.
Able to effectively warn roadway workers of the approach of trains.
Understand the on track safety training and qualification required of the roadway workers to be protected.
Proficient in radio procedures for communicating between RWIC/EIC’s and assigned work group.
Proficient in performing a job briefing with all roadway workers within their work location.
Able to place railroad advance warning and stop signs.
Able to install a railroad derail and apply locking device.
Proficiency with electronic communications including email and text.
Proficiency with standard office applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite).
A minimum of 2 years in track and/or construction experience.
