About the Role

The Food Service Specialist ensures appropriate quantities of food are prepared, portioned, and served to IDEA students. This role involves food preparation, recipe adherence, kitchen process compliance, student monitoring during meals, and kitchen cleaning duties.

Responsibilities

Prepare, portion, and serve food to students.
Cut and chop fruits and vegetables.
Follow recipes and established kitchen processes.
Monitor student behavior during meal periods.
Encourage students to consume fresh fruits and vegetables.
Prevent food sharing among students.
Perform kitchen cleaning duties including sweeping, mopping, wiping tables, washing dishes, and disposing of trash.
Move cafeteria tables daily.
Dispose of garbage.
Cook, clean, restock, and reset the kitchen for the next day.
Handle medium to large kitchen equipment such as ovens, slicers, and steamers.
Work around or with an academic calendar.
Work extended periods of time when there is not work (e.g., Spring Break, Summer Break, Thanksgiving Break, Winter Break).

Requirements

Ability to understand food recipes, safe handling of food, and sanitation practices.
Working knowledge of kitchen/food production procedures.
Ability to operate kitchen equipment, tools, and utensils.
Ability to perform basic math skills.
Works well under pressure in a team setting.
Ability to lift, bend, pull, push, and twist.
1+ years of experience in a job that shows physical activity or requires you to be on your feet for multiple hours a day.
Must be able to handle working with medium to large equipment.
Have basic math skills that directly relate to portioning food items in small trays.
Can take direction and feedback well.
Can take feedback well, especially during mid-year and end of year.
Can self-reflect and be honest with own performance, desire to correct mistakes quickly.
Some overtime may be needed.
May need to work on Saturdays depending on the campus.

Eligible for a performance bonus based on team performance and goal attainment.
