About the Role
Teaching Assistants provide instructional services to students under the general supervision of a licensed or certified teacher, using their unique skills to help with teaching programs in areas like English Language Arts, math, science, social studies, foreign languages, arts, crafts, and music.
Responsibilities
- Work with individual students or groups of students on special instructional projects.
- Provide academic support to individual students or small groups based on IEP identified needs.
- Assist teachers in implementing IEPs and student-specific goals.
- Record and maintain simple student records and information to aid teacher development of learning and behavioral experiences.
- Assist students in using instructional and technological resources that support instruction and individualized expectations.
- Assist in related instructional work as required.
- Assist students with specific health-related activities as appropriate.
- Perform toileting and feeding needs for students in Special Education classrooms.
- Lift students when needed in Special Education classrooms.
- Push students in assistive devices such as wheelchairs in Special Education classrooms.
Requirements
- New York State Level I, Level II, Level III, Pre-Professional, or Continuing teaching assistant certificate is required.
- Must pass a fingerprint-based background check at the candidate's cost of $104.50.
