About the Role

The Design Manager 1 is responsible for successful project delivery by organizing design teams, trade partners, process, and technology for projects utilizing design-build or other alternate delivery methods. This role requires proactive management of the design process to ensure coordinated documents that support project goals, all performed in support of JE Dunn's strategy, vision, and values.

Responsibilities

Interprets formal design build RFPs and develops work plans, collaborating with preconstruction, operations, and other key stakeholders.
Understands client business needs and creates conceptual plans, elevations, and 3D models for presentations and win strategies.
Reviews bridging documents for project compliance with RFP, including comprehension of Codes and Criteria.
Supports early due diligence activities with clients and stakeholders to ensure professional studies and jurisdictional requirements are incorporated into design documents.
Manages outside design consultants to meet technical and schedule requirements for design deliverables.
Manages the design review process with design teams and clients to ensure schedules are met and identifies project risks and opportunities.
Leverages design experience to work with project teams, identifying solutions and monitoring expectations for design schedules, quality control, and content.
Generates cost savings and value-added solutions during the design phase.
Monitors and controls design partner and consultant costs.
Reviews design and provides quality control comments to ensure program specifications and life-safety requirements are met.
Coordinates design document packaging strategies with the project team.
Manages project documentation using both 3D and 2D file management systems.
Develops sketches and plans to assist preconstruction with pricing of conceptual ideas.
Coordinates with VDC team to develop and implement projects as needed.
Provides technical design guidance throughout the entire construction process.
Provides design engineering support for the entire project life cycle.
Understands project budget and steers the project to ensure the design aligns with contractual details.

Requirements

Ability to perform work accurately, completely, and in a timely manner.
Ability to conduct effective presentations.
Thorough knowledge of project processes and how each supports successful project completion.
Ability to build relationships and collaborate within a team, internally and externally.
Experience with U.S. building design codes and material specific standards.
Ability to think in a highly structured manner across all design disciplines while also having creativity to develop specialized solutions.
Ability to manage budget and schedule, maximize profitability, and generate future work through building relationships.
Ability to build relationships with team members that transcend a project.
Valid and unrestricted driver's license required.
Must be able to lift up to 25 pounds.
May require extensive periods of travel.
Must be willing to work non-traditional hours to meet project needs.
May be exposed to extreme conditions (hot or cold).
Assignment location may include project sites and/or in the office.
Frequent activity: Sitting, Viewing Computer Screen.
Occasional activity: Standing, Walking, Bending, Climbing, Reaching above Shoulder, Pushing, Pulling.
