About the Role
The Academic Coach and Tutoring Coordinator provides academic coaching and coordinates tutoring support for all enrolled students. This role also offers tutoring for undergraduate students in General Education coursework, requiring strong time management and interpersonal skills, with potential for evening and weekend hours. Candidates with prior tutoring/teaching experience and experience with student-centered instructional strategies are preferred.
Responsibilities
- Oversees the coordination of tutoring services for all programs.
- Supports WCOnline set-up, usage, and generates reports.
- Collaborates with key stakeholders on tutoring needs and service delivery.
- Participates in tutor training, staff meetings, and professional development.
- Collaborates on the design and delivery of tutor training and assists tutors with challenges.
- Works with professional tutors and faculty to clarify assignments for General Education tutoring support.
- Reviews and reinforces General Education class content through one-on-one or group tutoring sessions.
- Refines students' study skills for independent learning using individual, group, or workshop sessions.
- Creates and maintains records of all student contact and submits reports.
- Supports effective general writing strategies, including citation formatting, grammar, and punctuation.
- Supports resume and cover letter development.
- Supports training and mentorship to the Peer Tutors.
- Disseminates information and refers students to other services.
- Supports exam proctoring.
- Works collaboratively with the academic advising team.
- Maintains a professional atmosphere and workplace.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Requirements
- Minimum of a bachelor’s degree with a cumulative undergraduate GPA of 3.25 or higher.
- Two years’ experience as a student tutor or teaching experience is preferred.
- Ability to demonstrate strong knowledge in specific academic subjects.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work with a diverse student population at many skill levels in a friendly and supportive way.
- Excellent interpersonal and organizational skills.
- Detail-oriented and able to work in a fast-paced customer service office environment.
- Commitment to supporting a diverse student population and contributing to an inclusive campus culture.
- Ability to handle discretion and confidentiality.
- Ability to work independently, manage multiple projects, allow for frequent interruptions, be timely in responding to correspondence, and meet deadlines.
