About the Role
To carry out educational and service activities of the Criminal Justice Initiative, including outreach, facilitation of inmate HIV/AIDS Peer Education, support groups, confidential HIV counseling and testing, special activities and other services. To design, implement and revise as necessary, trainings for inmate Peer Educators, facility staff and other individuals.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain culturally sensitive literature and educational approaches for HIV/AIDS education for all targeted populations.
- Teach and counsel inmates and facility staff about HIV/AIDS.
- Serve as a credible, culturally sensitive educator and assist clients in developing risk reduction plans.
- Utilize listening skills for crisis intervention and HIV test counseling.
- Encourage knowledge and information sharing while modeling these behaviors.
- Maintain productive work relationships with colleagues and others.
- Coordinate outreach, education, and other services with PathStone staff, inmate Peer Educators, DOCS staff, and community providers.
- Develop evaluation tools and assess W/PI Program components such as REACH.
- Collect daily program data and report cumulative data to supervisor monthly.
- Develop and use HIV/AIDS related training materials for inmates, inmate Peer Educators, facility staff, and others.
- Provide orientation and ongoing training for Peer Educators.
Requirements
- Associate Degree in Health Education, Nursing, or related field.
- Three (3) years of experience in Health Education.
- Previous peer educator development experience.
- Demonstrated ability to study information to determine, define, and comprehend its elements.
- Must possess an automobile, driver's license, and insurance.
