About the Role

The Program Supervisor is responsible for the day-to-day delivery of safe and effective client care by leading front-line staff for their program, adhering to VON's philosophy, policies, and standards. Registration as a Kinesiologist with the provincial college is preferred.

Responsibilities

  • Supervises and supports program staff, including PSWs, ensuring their performance effectiveness.
  • Organizes work activities and staff responsibilities.
  • Collaborates with the Manager in hiring, orientation, mentoring, and staff evaluation.
  • Ensures new staff complete Mask Fit Testing and oversees re-testing per VON policy.
  • Plans and participates in multi-disciplinary meetings, including client care/service plan and team meetings.
  • Conducts new client intakes and inter RAI assessments according to VON policy, client needs, and funder requirements.
  • Ensures client documentation is clear, concise, accurate, and appropriate per VON standards.
  • Plans, implements, evaluates, and adjusts client-focused care/service plans based on changing client needs and VON standards.
  • Ensures collection and reporting of statistical information (KPIs, performance metrics) for VON and funder obligations.
  • Participates in health and safety training, including WHMIS, and applies knowledge in the workplace.
  • Ensures program compliance with Health and Safety regulations and timely reporting of all workplace incidents.
  • Conducts and records Disaster and Emergency Drills per VON policy.
  • Ensures the program operates in accordance with VON Canada's quality and risk management framework and Occupational Health and Safety legislation.
  • Promotes VON's goals and values and their role as an integrated community care provider.
  • Promotes a safe and healthy workplace in accordance with the provincial Occupational Health and Safety Act and Regulations and VON's Safety Management System.
  • Abides by all VON policies, work practices, and confidentiality policies.
  • Works collaboratively with other staff in a team approach to service delivery.
  • Develops effective relationships with clients and care partners.
  • Liaises and communicates proactively and constructively with community partners/professionals.
  • Develops effective relationships with staff across departments to ensure program delivery goals are met.

Requirements

  • Post-Secondary Diploma in Health/Social Science discipline or equivalent.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related experience in community and health-based care.
  • Minimum of 2 years previous experience supervising staff with accountability for performance and results.
  • Minimum of 5 years knowledge and experience in program planning, implementation, and evaluation.
  • Experience or understanding of the not-for-profit healthcare environment.
  • First Aid or CPR certification required.
  • Experience working within a unionized environment is preferred.
  • Community development, public speaking, and budgeting experience is an asset.
  • Proficient in Windows OS and MS Office Suite programs.
  • Ability to accept and facilitate substantial change.
  • Demonstrated leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working in an environment with high confidentiality and discretion.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the social and health care services network and community resources.
  • Proven ability to build strong relationships within the community.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Strong organizational skills with an ability to prioritize, multi-task, and handle competing deadlines.
  • Ability to problem-solve and adjust to rapidly changing priorities in a deadline.
  • Strong attention to detail.
  • Must have access to a personal vehicle for work.
  • Must possess a current driver’s license and proof of vehicle insurance.
  • A current and original copy of a satisfactory Criminal Records Check is required.
  • A Vulnerable Sector Search and/or Child Abuse Registry Check may be required.
  • Ability to wear Personal Protective Equipment (PPE).
  • Requires a detail-oriented approach in a dynamic environment.
  • Physical activity includes lifting, carrying, bending, reaching, kneeling, walking, sitting, standing, and climbing stairs.
  • Some tasks require fine hand movements.
