About the Role
The Public Health Mobile Unit (PHMU) Driver operates service provision vans, assists clients, delivers supplies and specimens, sets up and tears down clinic spaces, follows IPAC guidelines, manages inventory, provides post-immunization observation, and supports vehicle maintenance. This provincial role involves travel across Nova Scotia to support various Public Health initiatives like vaccination programs and communicable disease testing, reaching communities with barriers to healthcare access.
Responsibilities
- Safe operation of service provision vans
- Assisting clients
- Delivery of supplies, equipment, vaccines, and specimens
- Set up and tear down of clinic and workspaces
- Following Infection Prevention and Control (IPAC) guidelines
- Prepare and maintain an inventory of equipment and supplies
- Provide post-immunization observation
- Monitor and support vehicle maintenance
- Perform other support functions
Requirements
- Successful completion of Grade 12
- Valid Nova Scotia Class 5 driver’s license
- Minimum 5 years driving experience
- Clean driving abstract with the past five years
- Must be able to work in an environment that is at times, adverse (e.g., noise, dust, fumes, prevailing weather conditions, congested traffic)
- Must exercise care and judgement with priorities being safety, courtesy, and common driving sense
- Ability to work independently and function as part of a team
- Customer-focused, comfortable with diverse communities
- Ability to work and adapt in a constantly changing environment
- Ability to receive work assignments at short notice within a variety of settings
Skills
- Excellent communication skills
- Familiarity with vehicles used and their operation
- Trained in “Transportation of Dangerous Goods by Ground” (asset)
- Completion of a defensive driving course (asset)
