About the Role
The Field Technician will play a key role in delivering geotechnical field inspection, materials testing, and data collection services on a variety of projects including transportation, land development, and residential, commercial, and industrial construction.
Responsibilities
- Conducting field testing such as compaction testing on earth fill, granular, and asphalt materials, plastic concrete sampling and testing, as part of QC or QA programs
- Assisting in laboratory testing as needed, for soils and aggregates
- Participating in all assigned Health and Safety training programs
- Attending in technical training programs as required
- Maintaining strong and effective working relationship with Terrapex staff as well as clients and subcontractors
- Other duties as may be assigned from time to time
Requirements
- Ability to work independently in the field on routine projects while following established procedures and instructions
- Strong attention to detail, accuracy in data collection, and high-quality field documentation
- Good working knowledge of field compaction testing, concrete sampling/testing, and basic QA/QC procedures
- Ability to recognize discrepancies or changing site conditions and communicate issues promptly to the Project Manager
- Familiarity with applicable industry standards, regulations, and safety requirements relevant to Ontario projects
- Valid driver’s licence with access to a reliable, insured vehicle
- Capable of performing field work, including lifting up to 50 lbs, standing/kneeling for extended periods, and working outdoors in all weather conditions
- Demonstrated commitment to health and safety and a strong safety culture
- Strong organizational and problem-solving skills, with the ability to apply logical reasoning in the field
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to accurately enter data with a high degree of precision
- Willingness to work flexible schedules, including occasional weekends, extended hours, and out-of-town assignments within Ontario

Experience Level
- 5+ years of relevant field experience in materials testing, geotechnical investigation support, or construction inspection
Education Level
- Post-secondary education in Construction Engineering &/or Civil Engineering Technology would be considered an asset
- Secondary School Diploma will also be considered based on previous work experience, trade or training
- CCIL laboratory accreditation is an asset
Salary/Compensations
- $25.00 - $33.00 per hour
