About the Role
The Pharmacy Manager - Operations is responsible for the safe, effective, and efficient provision of drug distribution services. This role involves co-leadership within the Department's Leadership Team to ensure medication quality and patient safety, and alignment with strategic priorities. The Manager also oversees drug procurement, inventory management, technician competency, and health technology assessment.
Responsibilities
- Oversees drug procurement and inventory management.
- Manages pharmacy technician/pharmacy practice assistant competency assessment and certification.
- Oversees health technology assessment (drug distribution systems).
- Manages the selection, training, and evaluation of pharmacy technicians/assistants and students.
- Supports the operational, fiscal, and strategic objectives of the Pharmacy Department and NSH.
- Ensures all programs and initiatives are consistent with the mission, vision, values, strategic directions, and business plan of NSH.
Requirements
- Completion of a recognized pharmacy technician program.
- Licensed as a pharmacy technician in Nova Scotia, through the Nova Scotia College of Pharmacists.
- Minimum 3 years’ experience in a hospital setting managing human, financial and material resources allocated to Pharmacy service is an asset.
- Proficient with computers and office administration programs.
- Experience with pharmacy software and technology is preferred.
- Excellent interpersonal communication and collaborative skills.
- Demonstrated collaborative practice with pharmacy practice assistants, pharmacists, learners, nursing, physicians and managers.
- Strong planning, evaluative, and leadership skills.
- Demonstrated fiscal and time-management skills.
- Strong knowledge of healthcare issues and collective agreements.
- Excellent knowledge of hospital pharmacy practice.
- Ability to prioritize, problem solve and work under pressure of time limitations is required.
- Previous experience with Failure Mode Effects and Analysis reviews is an asset.
- Competencies in other languages are an asset, French preferred.
