About the Role

As an Engineering Manager, you will lead a team of 5-6 engineers building and operating software for Direct-to-Consumer brands, RentalCover.com and TravelCover.com. You will own the technical foundation of the D2C digital experience, focusing on accelerating user acquisition, conversion, retention, and revenue growth. This role sits at the intersection of technology, product, data, and marketing, requiring you to raise engineering standards, build scalable services, and develop a high-performing team. It is a hands-on position involving code contributions to the PHP/Laravel and TypeScript/React stack, alongside delivery management and fostering a culture of ownership.

Responsibilities

Own technical execution and delivery for all applications across the direct-to-consumer domain, ensuring they meet business, performance, and security requirements.
Deliver the technical capability behind the growth agenda, including user acquisition, conversion, retention, and revenue expansion.
Drive technical excellence through engineering best practices, quality standards, and sound architectural principles.
Build a team culture of innovation, continuous learning, and collaborative problem-solving.
Partner with Product, Marketing, Infrastructure, and Data & AI teams to deliver on the vision of building the world's best technology and insights platform for embedded insurance.
Identify and integrate emerging technologies, including AI tooling, to enhance team productivity, quality, and velocity.

Requirements

Bachelor/Masters degree in Computer Science or Engineering.
At least 7 years of software engineering experience.
At least 3 years in engineering leadership roles.
Strong backend and frontend expertise, ideally in PHP/Laravel, React, TypeScript.
Experience building and operating APIs and services with high quality bars (testing, CI/CD, security, performance).
Strong technical background with hands-on experience in software architecture design, API development, and implementing monitoring and observability solutions for complex distributed systems.
Hands-on expertise across the growth engineering stack: technical SEO, ad tracking and analytics integrations (Google Ads, GA etc.), and site performance optimization.
Fluent with AI coding tools (Claude Code, Cursor, Gemini, or similar) and integrated them into real workflows.
Working understanding of LLMs beyond code generation: prompt engineering, context management, and knowing when AI adds value vs. traditional code.
Experience with modern software development practices including AI tooling, CI/CD pipelines, test automation, code quality tools.
Familiarity with infrastructure-as-code, cloud platforms (AWS/GCP), managing workloads in Kubernetes is highly desirable.
Knowledge of developing and scaling customer-facing web applications is highly valuable, particularly within the fast-paced insurance technology or fintech domains.
