About the Role
Sentry is seeking an Engineering Manager to lead the Growth team, focusing on expanding our product-led business by helping customers discover and maximize the value of our platform. This role emphasizes customer value, empathy for developers, and data-driven experimentation, prioritizing customer well-being over short-term business gains.
Responsibilities
- Lead a team of engineers, set priorities, and be accountable for team metrics.
- Define and execute the roadmap in partnership with design and data teams.
- Lead work across Sentry's self-serve funnel, including signup, onboarding, in-product activation, trial and upgrade paths, and pricing/billing surfaces.
- Evolve experimentation foundations, including flagging, instrumentation, and readouts, in partnership with the Data team.
- Run a fast, disciplined experimentation loop where hypotheses are debated before implementation.
- Track and report on conversion, activation, churn, support volume, and 90-day retention.
- Grow engineers on the team, including the skill of delivering excellent work on potentially ephemeral projects.
Requirements
- 3+ years of experience managing engineers, including ownership of a metric-driven team.
- Strong engineering background.
- Technically credible with senior engineers, capable of engaging substantively in architecture and technical decisions.
- Strong product sense to identify areas where changes create the most value.
- Experience helping users maximize the value derived from a complex product.
- Working fluency with experimentation frameworks, feature flags, A/B testing, and analytics instrumentation.
- Ability to credibly discuss workflows, tooling, and pain points with users.
- Bonus: experience in growth at a developer tools company, building experimentation infrastructure from scratch, or running high-volume experiments.
