About the Role
Serve as a technical lead and project manager for environmental engineering projects, assessing team talent, building skills, and managing staff growth within the region. Foster innovation, digital delivery, and technology adoption while ensuring quality, safety, and budgetary adherence.
Responsibilities
- Serve as a technical lead and project manager on projects throughout the region.
- Assess existing team talent, build skills within the group, and add staff as necessary to grow the practice.
- Manage people, their development, and create plans for improvement while supporting business objectives.
- Lead environmental engineering and design projects.
- Provide strategic leadership and direction for the practice, ensuring alignment with company goals.
- Lead or support project teams as Project Manager/Design Manager, delivering projects on time, within scope, and budget.
- Develop consistency throughout the New York metropolitan region to enable seamless work sharing, promoting innovation, digital delivery, and technology.
- Lead the Quality effort for the Environmental Engineering Practice, ensuring adherence to quality, safety, and budgetary requirements.
- Support collaboration between geography management and discipline.
- Develop teams in the New York Environmental Engineering practice, coordinating resource use and maintaining high group billability/utilization.
- Support and lead business development efforts, including proposal preparation, client presentations, and negotiations.
- Provide thought leadership and maintain strong industry recognition.
- Stay informed about industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices.
- Foster a culture of innovation, collaboration, and continuous improvement within the practice in the Region.
- Develop technical reports, drawings, and specifications detailing remediation plans, system designs, and implementation procedures.
- Coordinate with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and contractors to obtain permits, approvals, and support for remediation projects.
- Manage environmental engineering and design projects from initiation to completion, including budgeting, scheduling, resource allocation, and quality assurance.
- Collaborate with market/BD/discipline leaders on environmental business initiatives and enhance client relationships.
- Maintain and develop relationships with existing and prospective clients, utilizing internal resources for new leads and operating in a team environment.
- Prepare/coordinate proposals in conjunction with marketing and technical staff.
- Assist with “Go/No Go” decisions for responding to RFPs.
- Marshall resources for proposal opportunities, including developing strategy, writing portions, and coordinating technical writers.
- Sign and seal design documents as a Professional Engineer.
- Maintain a utilization rate of 60%.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science in environmental or civil engineering, or a related technical field.
- New York State Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
- Fifteen (15) years of relevant experience in environmental regulations, environmental investigation, remediation design and compliance, along with environmental construction support experience.
- Proven experience in environmental engineering and design, and project management.
- Strong knowledge of environmental regulations, remediation technologies, and industry best practices.
- Proficiency in environmental modeling software, GIS, AutoCAD, and other relevant technical tools.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams, clients, and regulators.
- Strong problem-solving abilities, attention to detail, and ability to work independently and prioritize tasks.
- Experience managing multiple phases of environmental projects including execution and/or delegation of work, schedule, cost, quality, and client relationship.
- Experience with the preparation of design plans and technical specifications for sub-slab depressurization systems (SSDS) and gas vapor barriers (GVB).
- Experience with SVE, air sparging, multi-phase extraction, and in-situ chemical oxidation/bioremediation is a plus.
- Experience with Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) is preferred.
- Experience with MTA as Environmental Manager is a plus.
- Experience with NYC School Construction Authority is a plus.
- Experience managing task order contracts and mid- to large-scale infrastructure projects is a plus.
- Willingness to travel as needed to project sites and client meetings.
