About the Role
This role focuses on integrating existing systems and building new data products and AI-enabled tools for the Fund Management business within Octopus Energy Generation (OEGEN). You will be responsible for wiring third-party systems, internal apps, and document storage into the Databricks environment, creating data products, internal tools, and AI workflows, and developing the playbook for system integration and tool building.
Responsibilities
- Integrate third-party systems, internal tools, SharePoint, and Microsoft 365 into the Databricks environment via APIs and connectors.
- Build data products, including well-modelled, documented, and reusable datasets for consumption through Excel, dashboards, and natural-language querying.
- Design and ship internal applications and AI-enabled tools using Python, Streamlit, Databricks Apps, Lakebase, or FastAPI.
- Prototype, evaluate, and productionize new AI capabilities, such as document AI and retrieval-augmented generation.
- Adopt a 'build-first' approach by reusing existing Octopus Energy Group data platform and AI capabilities.
- Implement practical guardrails within Databricks and Unity Catalog for access, permissions, and environment hygiene.
- Manage Databricks and AI token spend proactively through tagging, budgets, alerting, and usage monitoring.
- Ensure AI usage is properly credentialed and logged, providing secure patterns for embedding AI into tools.
- Standardize the development and deployment of internal applications with shared templates, authentication, and documentation.
- Consolidate ad-hoc scripts, spreadsheets, and no-code workflows into robust integrations.
- Automate repetitive aspects of the team's workflow.
- Collaborate with non-technical teams to understand their challenges and translate them into buildable solutions.
Requirements
- Strong systems integration experience, including connecting business systems, SaaS tools, and data sources via REST APIs, connectors, and authentication flows.
- Proven track record of building and shipping data products or internal applications that are actively used.
- Proficient in Python and SQL for building, automation, and data modeling.
- Hands-on experience with a cloud data platform in a production environment (Databricks preferred), including workspaces, catalogs, permissions, and compute.
- Practical experience integrating AI into real-world tools, including LLM APIs, retrieval, and agents.
- Solid understanding of identity and access management, including SSO, service accounts, credential management, and access lifecycle.
- Experience with Microsoft 365 / SharePoint integration or a comparable enterprise document and collaboration stack.
- Experience managing cloud or AI usage costs, including attribution and capping.
- Pragmatic approach to adopting existing infrastructure over building new solutions, with a bias for shipping functional tools.
- Clear communication skills, capable of explaining technical trade-offs to non-technical stakeholders and engaging in technical discussions.
- Comfort with taking ownership in a small team and establishing working patterns.
