About the Role
We are seeking a Principal Data Scientist to build the infrastructure and methods that make AI-assisted analytics and real-world data quality work fast, scalable, and genuinely trustworthy. Your work will span AI-enabled analytics and AI-enabled data quality, focusing on building capability and owning internal tools as products. This hands-on role combines individual technical contribution with technical leadership, including mentorship and review of other data scientists' work. You will partner closely with Product, Engineering, Medical, and Commercial teams.
Responsibilities
- Build, maintain, and improve AI-powered tooling for reliable and repeatable commercial cohort counts and feasibility analysis.
- Extend AI tooling to other recurring analytic work, including generating and reviewing analysis code, and supporting protocol and analysis plan development.
- Gather requirements from internal teams, treat them as users, and iterate based on feedback.
- Own the trustworthiness of tooling over time, including testing, validation, and performance monitoring.
- Scale adoption through documentation, training, onboarding, and enablement.
- Help define guardrails for AI use in client-facing work, including data usage, output review, and provenance recording.
- Rethink data quality checks for automated assessment of new sources or refreshed schemas.
- Move quality assessment beyond manual review to an automated approach with a durable record.
- Define where AI and agentic approaches add leverage in data quality work.
- Define system success metrics for data quality, ensuring continued trust and action on quality signals.
- Partner with Engineering on pipeline integration, orchestration, and monitoring.
- Partner closely with Product, Engineering, Medical Science, Clinical Operations, and Commercial teams.
- Advocate for the quality and validation work required by AI-assisted products.
- Keep pace with AI tooling and methods developments and integrate useful advancements into standards, training, and tooling.
- Provide technical oversight, code review, and mentorship to other data scientists.
- Own the standards against which other data scientists' work is measured.
- Help grow the data science group as it expands.
Requirements
- MS or PhD in data science, statistics, computer science, computational biology, or a related quantitative field; equivalent practical experience will be considered.
- Experience working with real-world healthcare data (EHR, claims, or registry), including familiarity with its structural and quality challenges.
- A track record of building internal tools, platforms, or analytic products used by others, and owning them through multiple versions.
- Strong programming ability in Python and SQL.
- Experience in a cloud data warehouse environment such as Snowflake.
- Demonstrated ownership of a data quality, testing, or observability system end to end.
- Practical experience building with large language models beyond prototyping, including prompt and workflow design and evaluation of LLM-based systems.
- Comfort working in raw, messy, poorly documented source data.
- Experience working cross-functionally with product and engineering partners.
- Ability to hold a technical line constructively when priorities compete.
- Clear written and verbal communication skills, including explaining method limitations.
- Interest in growing into technical leadership, including mentoring and reviewing other data scientists' work.
