About the Role

Quantum Motion is seeking a Senior Electrical Characterisation Engineer to join their Process Integration team. This role is crucial for understanding, qualifying, and improving the silicon devices at the core of their quantum processors. You will bridge semiconductor manufacturing and quantum hardware, using electrical characterisation and data analysis to understand manufacturing variability, identify root causes of device behaviour, and provide feedback to the fabrication process. This is an opportunity to significantly impact the yield, quality, and scalability of quantum processors using advanced silicon technology.

Responsibilities

  • Drive electrical characterisation of fabricated silicon devices, developing and improving high-throughput screening methods for key parameters like threshold voltage, gate oxide reliability, and channel mobility.
  • Translate electrical data into manufacturing insights, identifying patterns, variability, and device failures, and linking them to semiconductor process steps.
  • Develop automated measurement and test infrastructure, creating Python-based test routines and instrument-control workflows for room-temperature and low-temperature environments.
  • Analyze large-scale electrical datasets using statistical process control, yield analysis, and other data-driven techniques to monitor wafer uniformity, defect density, and process drift.
  • Collaborate with semiconductor foundries and process engineers, providing clear, actionable feedback to enhance device performance, consistency, and yield.
  • Build scalable characterisation processes, establishing testing standards, calibration procedures, SOPs, and data pipelines for effective information flow.
  • Contribute expertise and ideas to continuously improve measurement capability for next-generation technology as Quantum Motion scales.

Requirements

  • Master's or PhD in Electrical Engineering, Microelectronics, Semiconductor Physics, Materials Science, or a closely related discipline.
  • 3+ years of experience in semiconductor device testing, reliability engineering, electrical characterisation, or yield analysis within a foundry, IDM, or semiconductor R&D environment.
  • Strong understanding of silicon CMOS fabrication processes, semiconductor device physics, and foundry workflows.
  • Hands-on experience with semiconductor parameter analysers, SMUs, and wafer probe stations, including DC and/or RF electrical testing.
  • Strong Python skills for instrument control, automation, and automated test execution.
  • A highly analytical approach with the ability to work with large datasets to identify trends, anomalies, and root causes.
  • Excellent communication skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively across semiconductor, process, hardware, and quantum engineering teams.
