About the Role
Hiscox is seeking a Regional Lead to guide a team of underwriters and manage relationships with regional brokers within our Underwriting Solutions Team. This role carries responsibility for the underwriting quality and profitability of a regional book of business, applying advanced underwriting authority while overseeing and developing a team of underwriters. In this role you will bring strong leadership and underwriting judgment, demonstrated through active engagement with brokers, underwriters, and key stakeholders across the US offices.
Responsibilities
- Underwrites, prices, and negotiates accounts consistent with the quality of the risk and according to the company’s strategies and guidelines for the product lines.
- Identifies underperforming brokers and renewal books and engages the team and key stakeholders to drive improvements.
- Builds collaborative relationships with underwriters across the US offices.
- Achieves production targets and underwrites business profitably.
- Functions as an escalation point for both personnel and underwriting-related concerns and provides day-to-day coaching and development to team members.
Requirements
- Expertise in leading, motivating, and developing a team of underwriters to achieve business results.
- In-depth knowledge of underwriting policies, procedures, and guidelines.
- Advanced risk assessment, business needs assessment, and pricing knowledge.
- Basic knowledge of broker performance variables and the ability to respond effectively.
- Strong leadership and collaboration skills.
- Makes sound, well-reasoned underwriting and pricing decisions, weighing risk quality against company strategy and guidelines.
- Consistently achieves production targets and underwrites profitably, holding self and team accountable to business goals.
- Willing to address underperforming brokers or books directly and to escalate personnel or underwriting concerns when necessary.

- Hiscox USA underwrites small- to mid-market commercial risks through brokers, other insurers and distribution partners and directly to businesses.
