About the Role
Academy of Art University is seeking a Shop Technician for the School of Jewelry and Metal Arts for the Fall and Spring semesters. Shop Technicians work directly with students, faculty, and staff to ensure efficient and effective utilization of University labs, equipment facilities, and shop spaces.
Responsibilities
- Train and provide for the safety of all students using the Jewelry and Metal Arts studios and shops.
- Support a diverse student body as well as faculty with general questions regarding shop space and projects.
- Monitor safety in Jewelry and Metal Arts studios and shops and communicate important safety practices.
- Attend safety meetings pertaining to the Jewelry and Metal Arts department and the University at large.
- Perform general maintenance, simple construction and fabrication as assigned.
- Issue and recover tools for students and instructors.
- Regularly inventory shop tools and supplies.
- Perform special projects and assist with other tasks as required or assigned.
Requirements
- Must have working knowledge of a variety of jewelry fabrication tools, techniques, and equipment.
- Welding experience is a plus!
- Must possess excellent customer service skills and be safety-minded always.
- Must have a friendly and patient personality and enjoy working with a diverse student population.
- Must be able to consistently lift up to 70lbs.
