About the Role
WSP is seeking an Ecological Risk Assessor to join their Federal Environmental Team. This role involves collaborating with risk assessment team members to support project planning, execution, public outreach, and stakeholder communication for risk assessments that meet EPA and state regulatory requirements. The position will focus on multimedia risk assessments and environmental regulatory compliance in industrial, commercial, and government sectors, including project management.
Responsibilities
- Direct and supervise technical assignments and manage entire projects or specific elements of projects.
- Act as lead ecological risk assessor, authoring proposals and projects.
- Engage in extensive client and regulator interaction, particularly for scoping ecological risk assessments and applying results in site decision-making.
- Provide technical review for projects to ensure compliance with environmental regulations, company standards, contract requirements, and specifications.
- Occasionally travel for projects, conferences, business development, or training.
Requirements
- B.S. in Toxicology, Biology, or equivalent.
- 7+ years of relevant experience in conducting, authoring, directing, and performing technical review of multi-media ecological risk assessments with increasing levels of project complexity and responsibility.
- Extensive hands-on knowledge of ecological risk assessment principles, procedures, and guidance, particularly USEPA CERCLA.
- Demonstrated successful interactions across a range of private sector and governmental clients.
- Experience with performance and technical review of multi-media screening level and baseline ecological risk assessments for common and emerging contaminants.
- Experience with completion of projects through feasibility studies and Records of Decision, including identifying risk-based remedial goals.
- Extensive experience in scoping, managing, and conducting ecological risk assessment components for each stage of the CERCLA process, including development of work plans and QAPPs (evaluating sampling strategies and data appropriateness for risk assessment).
- Experience with risk communication with clients and stakeholders, and at conferences and professional organizations, including presenting complex technical information concisely and accurately.
