About the Role
The Senior Business Manager leads and manages day-to-day operations for multiple clients, acting as a partner in the production process and offering counsel on Business Affairs matters.
Responsibilities
- Manage day-to-day business operations for assigned clients, including estimates, purchase orders, vendor vetting, and invoice processing.
- Draft production contracts, releases, affidavits, and music rights agreements in conjunction with legal counsel.
- Work across traditional and non-traditional productions including Broadcast, Radio, Print, Social, Influencer, Digital, Activations, and Experiential.
- Assess talent requirements, estimate talent session and usage fees, and calculate union fees and fringes.
- Interpret and apply union rules and descriptions to real-world situations.
- Manage talent duties for non-union clients, including drafting releases, processing payments, and coordinating with third-party signatories.
- Support the setup of freelance crew payroll through Extreme Reach Crew Services.
- Create production estimates in the financial system and manage costs through reconciliation.
- Advise account teams on expiring talent and third-party rights agreements, and track rights and expirations for stock, talent, and music.
- Build relationships with talent agents and negotiate costs and terms, including overscale agreements.
- Partner with client cost consultants.
- Apply knowledge of copyright and licensing for commercial usages, ensuring appropriate rights are secured.
- Create and manage online project job folders for contract archival.
Requirements
- 7+ years of Business Affairs experience, preferably at an advertising agency.
- Ability to adapt to evolving technology, including AI.
- Proficiency in Financial and A/P systems; experience with Nexelus is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of union, non-union, and offshore talent, including labor and minor employment laws.
- Experience with a 3rd party Payroll Service platform and CMC/Forecast Third party signatory is a plus.
- In-depth knowledge of AICP, AICE, SAG-AFTRA, AFM, ACTRA, UDA, and FTC requirements.
- Understanding of insurance requirements for various production needs.
- Strong drafting skills and basic understanding of legal terms and contract interpretation.
- Experience in assessing and crafting deal memos, influencer agreements, celebrity contracts, vendor SOWs, and contract legalese.
- Strong negotiation and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent organizational, verbal, and written communication skills with strong attention to detail.
- Positive, self-motivated, collaborative team member with a dedicated work ethic.
- Ability to maintain a positive attitude while managing urgent deadlines and multitasking in a dynamic environment.
