About the Role

The Quantitative Solutions department is business-focused, specializing in derivatives models, analytical tools, and high-performance compute services for pricing and risk. The Quantitative Engineering team develops and supports the enterprise platform for risk, positions, and valuations across all deal types, including complex derivatives, operating in a high-pressure front office environment.

Responsibilities

  • Engage with users to gather requirements and deliver development work within agreed timelines.
  • Adhere to company standards and best practices, including documentation, testing, and peer review.
  • Use technology appropriately and flexibly, considering company strategy.
  • Provide full visibility of work via a backlog of requests.
  • Implement software engineering best practices and develop high-quality code with appropriate test coverage.
  • Refactor and enhance existing components to standardize and reduce duplication.
  • Provide detailed documentation of application/component features.
  • Assist the production operations team with testing, rollout, and production support.
  • Advise on and implement appropriate architecture, data model, and system design for projects.
  • Support and further develop desktop tools built by the quantitative development team.
  • Take ownership of development infrastructure and adopt company standard toolsets.
  • Work closely with Quantitative Analytics and Development teams on model integration, performance, and issue tracking.
  • Coordinate and communicate specific subject matter knowledge during design and integration.
  • Engage with the business to help them understand and define requirements for systems and tools.
  • Provide technical advice to business units on appropriate tools and processes.

Requirements

  • 10+ years of software development experience.
  • Commodities product knowledge and experience (Power / Gas / Complex Derivatives).
  • Experience on a technology team within a financial institution, ideally in a front office.
  • Previous experience working within a trading operation, preferably energy or other commodity trading, with a full understanding of the trade life cycle.
  • Understanding of financial products, preferably including derivative and option products.
  • Familiarity with physically delivered commodities is desirable.
  • Mathematically minded with some exposure to financial mathematical theory.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with exceptional attention to detail.
  • Good communication skills with the ability to engage with non-technical audiences.
  • Capable of thriving in a fast-paced yet collaborative and team-driven trading environment.
  • Able to work effectively under pressure with traders and demanding front office users.
  • Hands-on approach, flexible with a positive outlook.
  • A passionate and versatile technologist with a strong interest in energy commodity trading.
  • Ability to fully participate in a multi-faceted team environment.
  • Takes ownership of issues and facilitates their resolution quickly using initiative while managing expectations.
  • Capacity to understand business processes quickly.
  • Attention to detail and strong focus on accuracy of information.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

  • C# and .NET development experience (5+ years)
  • Working experience with API and backend services deployed to cloud-based environments
  • Experience with distributed architecture and modern CI/CD practices (Docker & Kubernetes)
  • Containers / Cloud experience
  • Experience with database systems and messaging solutions (Sql Server, MongoDB, Memcached/Redis)
  • Source Control Management (GIT)
  • C++ experience / Experience with C++ interop
  • Entity Framework Core experience (Sql server, Oracle)
  • Python, Java, JavaScript and other advanced languages
  • Test Driven Development
  • Build Management and Continuous Integration
  • Front End development
  • Continuous integration processes, automated test execution and source code management
  • Experience with cloud modernization projects
