About the Role

Native Child and Family Services of Toronto (NCFST) is dedicated to providing a high quality of life, well-being, care, and healing for Indigenous children and families in Toronto. Our service model is culture-based, respecting Native values, the extended family, and self-determination. We integrate holistic, culturally-based prevention services that are child-centered, family-focused, and community-driven. Responsibilities

  • Implement and provide services combining cultural and mainstream healing models for families, youth, and children.
  • Identify and conduct child and family assessments for those experiencing behavioral, psychological, and emotional difficulties.
  • Manage cases, liaise with internal and external resources, and prepare/facilitate programs.
  • Provide resources for youth with developmental disabilities or parents of children with developmental disabilities.
  • Formulate case management and therapeutic goals and objectives, identifying appropriate resources.
  • Input reports and statistical data into the database, providing ongoing case management, crisis intervention, and counseling.
  • Ensure quality of service through collaboration with service providers.
  • Respond to requests for agency information, case consultations, and community public relations.
  • Attend community meetings, including home visits.
  • Process service requests in a caring and professional manner consistent with NCFST standards.
  • Provide workshops to staff on various developmental issues.
  • Facilitate support groups for parents.
  • Work flexible hours, including evening work.
  • Perform other related duties as required.

Requirements

  • A professional/university degree in the human services field or an equivalent combination of education and Indigenous lived experience.
  • Willingness to train and mentor with senior staff.
  • Knowledge of contemporary off-reserve Indigenous realities, particularly concerning developmental disabilities and programming for children and teens.
  • Active participant in Indigenous ways of Knowing and Being, including ceremonies.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work within a team approach to service delivery.
  • Ability to prioritize and organize multiple demands.
  • Computer skills for data management.
  • Demonstrated understanding and commitment to integrating the NCFST Mission and values into practice, service, and relationships.
  • Demonstrated understanding of workplace Health and Safety practices and employee responsibilities under current legislation.
  • Ability to work effectively with all staff levels, maintaining communication and working relationships.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, tact, sensitivity, and ability to build strong internal relationships.
  • Successful candidate is required to complete a background check.
