Responsibilities

  • Accurately check-in, admit, and register patients in hospital or ED settings via in-person, phone, or virtual methods.
  • Verify patient demographic information, collect insurance data, and create/identify appropriate accounts.
  • Obtain patient signatures, provide required forms/letters, and assist patients with self-registration.
  • Collect co-payments and/or share of cost.
  • Ensure patient safety using positive identification protocols and obtain necessary consents.
  • May assist patients with hospital presumptive eligibility or Medicaid applications.
  • Physically walk to patients' locations throughout the emergency department and/or hospital for in-person registration.
  • Adhere to quality assurance guidelines and productivity standards.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively.
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills.
  • Intermediate mathematic competency.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of proper phone etiquette and phone handling skills.
  • Ability to interact professionally with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain working knowledge of systems and processes related to patient registration and scheduling activities.

Skills

  • Epic RC/EMR system experience preferred.
  • Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification Preferred.
  • Prior desk, appointment, or secretarial experience preferred.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling systems and procedures preferred.
