About the Role
The COSMIC team is building a global-scale, Kubernetes-based service platform to power Microsoft's productivity workloads. We are seeking a Principal Software Engineer to help us take the platform to the next level, delivering a high-level, prescriptive geo-scale application platform that standardizes enterprise-ready service delivery in the Microsoft cloud. This role involves extensive work with Azure and open-source technologies like Kubernetes, offering opportunities for technical leadership and collaboration across Microsoft.
Responsibilities
- Partner with stakeholders to determine user requirements for complex scenarios.
- Provide technical leadership for identifying dependencies and developing design documents.
- Lead by example and mentor others to produce extensible and maintainable code.
- Leverage subject-matter expertise to lead multiple product project and release plans.
- Act as a Designated Responsible Individual (DRI), mentoring engineers and working on-call to monitor system health.
- Proactively seek new knowledge and adapt to new trends to improve product availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance.
- Drive consistency in monitoring and operations at scale and share knowledge with other engineers.
Requirements
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science or related technical field AND 8+ years technical engineering experience with coding in languages including C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, or Python, OR equivalent experience.
- Ability to meet Microsoft, customer and/or government security screening requirements.
- Must pass the Microsoft Cloud Background Check upon hire/transfer and every two years thereafter.

- USD $165,600 - $296,400 per year (U.S. typical base pay range)
- USD $220,800 - $331,200 per year (San Francisco Bay area and New York City metropolitan area)
