About the Role
We are hiring our first People team member in London to build and manage the people foundation for the UK as our London office grows. This role involves end-to-end ownership of the people function, ensuring a positive environment for the team, and serving as the primary point of contact for all people operations.
Responsibilities
- Own core people operations for the London team, including onboarding, offboarding, payroll coordination, and benefits administration.
- Serve as the first point of contact for London employees regarding policies, benefits, pay, and people matters.
- Support managers by assisting with team setup, identifying performance or people issues, and escalating when necessary.
- Maintain accurate people data in systems and operationalize the HRIS locally.
- Ensure UK benefits are competitive and align with the local market, with clear policy messaging.
- Manage the people aspects of Modal’s UK presence, ensuring compliance with UK employment laws.
- Oversee day-to-day London office operations, including space, supplies, and creating a welcoming environment.
- Organize local events, team bonding, and enhance the in-office experience.
- Coordinate with vendors and building management.
- Manage local recruiting operations in partnership with the global Talent team, including interview logistics and candidate experience.
Requirements
- 5+ years of experience in a People Ops or People & Talent generalist role, preferably in a fast-growing tech company.
- Working knowledge of UK employment norms, compliance, and labor environments.
- Ability to work autonomously and own outcomes with minimal supervision.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Clear and thoughtful communication with candidates, employees, and stakeholders.
- Comfortable balancing strategic thinking with hands-on execution.
- Enthusiasm for being a foundational hire and building people processes from scratch.
