About the Role
This strategic role will partner closely with the CEO and management team on company strategy, organizational design, and resource allocation. The individual will play a key role in building and scaling Modern Treasury’s payments business, shaping its business model, partner economics, pricing, and path to attractive long-term unit economics. They will also help determine investment priorities for people and capital to create long-term company and shareholder value, bringing a rigorous economic perspective to strategic decisions. The role includes leading capital markets and strategic transactions, serving as a partner to the Board and investors, and scaling the finance organization, including defining AI's role in the function.
Responsibilities
- Shape company and operating model by partnering with the CEO and management team on decisions regarding company structure and focus.
- Help shape organizational structure, including teams, roles, and responsibilities.
- Drive resource allocation and long-term value creation by determining optimal investment areas for people and capital.
- Guide the economics of the product by applying an economic lens to product strategy, roadmap decisions, and pricing.
- Negotiate with financial partners and banks to drive the economics of the payments business.
- Lead capital markets and strategic transactions, including primary capital raises, debt facilities, and M&A.
- Partner with the Board and key investors by communicating financial performance, outlook, and strategy.
- Lead and scale the finance function by building and managing a high-performing team.
- Set AI strategy for finance to enhance the effectiveness of the finance organization.
Requirements
- Possess a combination of strategic judgment, commercial instincts, and financial depth.
- Think and act as a company builder and a driver.
- Experience navigating strategic transactions such as primary capital raises, debt financings, or M&A.
- Strong communication and storytelling skills to represent the business clearly and credibly with boards, investors, and external stakeholders.
- Experience operating in a high-growth startup.
- Fintech experience in the infrastructure or application layer.
- Payments experience is a strong plus.
- Experience in investment banking, private equity, or venture capital is a plus.
