About the Role

The Coordinator, D-Camps will support the Mission Team and Diabetes Camp program by providing leadership to summer camp programs and year-round operations, ensuring program delivery aligns with national guidelines and provincial camping association standards. This role manages all program areas, supports the seasonal leadership team, develops quality programs, assists with hiring seasonal staff, and facilitates inter-departmental cooperation for a successful D-Camps program experience.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinates, plans, and implements D-Camps programs, including digital events, summer camp, leadership development programs, family camps, weekend events, Diabetes Canada events, and alumni events, in accordance with program plans.
  • Coordinates, plans, and implements D-Camps programs and represents/promotes Atlantic D-Camps to local, provincial, and relevant camping communities.
  • Functions as Program Lead for all assigned year-round programs, supervising and evaluating program staff, and managing hiring, onboarding, and payroll for staff and volunteers.
  • Engages in operational planning and collaborates to ensure high standards of service and program delivery.
  • Works in partnership with D-Camps staff and volunteers to ensure alignment with D-Camps national guidelines and provincial camping association standards.
  • Explores opportunities and innovative practices to realign area camping and youth programs, targeting best practices and ensuring efficient resource use.
  • Ensures a positive culture and community at camp for all campers, staff, and volunteers; cultivates relationships with alumni and camp families, responding to feedback and suggesting changes.
  • Manages contract relationships with third-party providers for program operations (e.g., facility rentals, food service, transportation).
  • Ensures all requirements for peer reviews, audits, and Ministry requirements are met through staff training, program setup, surveys, and staff management, including health and safety, risk management, and audit requirements.
  • Manages inventories of equipment and supplies.
  • Oversees and coordinates communications with camper families, staff, and volunteers, and manages camp program applications and registration software (CampBrain).
  • Ensures all program-related expenses are in line with budget requirements and adaptations are made throughout the season to remain on budget.
  • Supports communication, marketing, and social media initiatives, including D-Camps social media platforms and collection of materials.
  • Understands the legal responsibility to recognize and report suspected child abuse to the Children's Aid Society.
  • Participates in training, and trains or ensures training is provided to employees, contractors, and volunteers on safe job procedures, safety policies, reporting requirements, and emergency procedure protocols.
  • Provides leadership and oversight to camp instructors and camp volunteers.

Requirements

  • Undergraduate degree or diploma in a relevant discipline.
  • 3-5+ years of camp experience with staff and volunteer supervision and management expertise.
  • Direct experience working with children or youth.
  • Direct experience working with children, youth, or families living with Type 1 Diabetes is an asset.
  • Standard First Aid certification.
  • Well-developed interpersonal and relationship-building skills; ability to establish rapport and communicate effectively with members, volunteers, and staff.
  • Demonstrated strong leadership skills developed through progressively responsible experience in a supervisory role; ability to encourage and motivate staff and volunteers, acknowledge contributions, and engage in partnerships and collaborations.
  • Commitment to fostering a positive, inclusive, and collaborative work environment.
  • Responsive to stakeholder needs.
  • Proven ability to work constructively as a team member in a complex organizational setting.
  • Demonstrates an understanding of and commitment to Diabetes Canada’s mission, vision, and core values.
  • Occasional evening and weekend work.
  • Expected to travel and be on-site during camp seasons.
  • Must have a valid driver's license and vehicle.
  • Must be legally eligible to work in Canada.
  • Must hold a valid work permit or study permit where applicable.
