About the Role
TexPIRG is seeking a state director to lead campaigns on Right to Repair, Data Centers, and High Value Healthcare. The role involves advocating for consumer and public health protections.
Responsibilities
- Participate in policy development, research and messaging to determine program priorities.
- Build coalitions by reaching out to diverse organizations and constituency groups.
- Organize events and recruit volunteers for webinars, community events, and public meetings.
- Earn traditional and social media attention by organizing media events and writing opinion pieces.
- Advocate to decision-makers through lobbying, testifying, and producing written materials.
- Build relationships with key players at local, regional, and federal levels.
- Fundraise through grant proposals, foundation relations, and individual donor cultivation.
- Grow the team by identifying and recruiting staff and managing interns.
- Exercise discretion and independent judgment in decision-making.
Requirements
- At least 2 years of advocacy or organizing experience (advanced degrees may count towards experience).
- Effective communication with excellent writing and public speaking skills.
- Creative and effective problem-solving abilities; strategic thinking.
- Ability to build relationships and coalitions, working with diverse individuals.
- Well-organized with the ability to manage multiple proposals simultaneously.
- Ability to travel regularly and work evenings and weekends as needed.
- Experience in the Texas Legislature or another government office is a plus.
- Experience with a consumer protection or public health advocacy organization is a plus.
- Fundraising experience, particularly grant-seeking, is a plus.
