About the Role

The Registration Representative is responsible for the accurate check-in, admissions, and registration of incoming patients in a hospital or ED setting, which may involve in-person, phone, or virtual interactions. This role ensures patient safety through positive identification protocols, obtains necessary signatures and consents, and may assist with eligibility applications. The position requires adherence to quality assurance guidelines and productivity standards.

Responsibilities

  • Accurate check-in/admissions/registration of incoming patients in the hospital or ED setting.
  • Perform in-person, phone, or virtual registrations.
  • Verify patient demographic information.
  • Collect insurance data.
  • Identify and/or create appropriate patient accounts.
  • Obtain patient signatures and provide required forms or letters.
  • Act as an ambassador and assist patients with self-registration.
  • Collect indicated co-payments and/or share of cost.
  • Ensure patient safety using positive patient identification protocols.
  • Obtain required consents.
  • Assist patients with hospital presumptive eligibility or Medicaid applications.
  • Physically walk to patients’ location throughout the emergency department and/or hospital for in-person registration.
  • Adhere to quality assurance guidelines.
  • Meet established productivity standards to support work unit performance expectations.

Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • 2+ years of relevant experience required.
  • Experience in using an Epic RC/EMR system is preferred.
  • Healthcare Financial Management Association (HFMA) Certification Preferred.
  • Ability to read and communicate effectively.
  • Basic computer/keyboarding skills.
  • Intermediate mathematic competency.
  • Good written and verbal communication skills.
  • Knowledge of proper phone etiquette and phone handling skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Prior desk, appointment, or secretarial experience is preferred.
  • Working knowledge of scheduling systems and procedures is preferred.
  • Ability to interact on a professional level with individuals from diverse backgrounds.
  • Maintain working knowledge of systems and processes related to patient registration and scheduling activities.
