About the Role
The Wide Format Equipment Maintenance Technician is responsible for the preventive maintenance, diagnosis, and repair of digital printing and CNC finishing equipment. This role focuses on equipment uptime, print quality stability, and cut accuracy across all production shifts. The technician will own the preventive maintenance program, manage equipment performance, coordinate outside service, train personnel, and adhere to safety standards.
Responsibilities
- Build and execute preventive maintenance schedules for all printing, cutting, and finishing equipment.
- Diagnose faults to root cause and document findings and corrective action.
- Respond to production down calls, triage by criticality, and communicate restoration times.
- Service printhead assemblies, ink delivery systems, UV curing modules, and media handling systems for digital wide format printers.
- Maintain beam and carriage drive systems, tool modules, vacuum hold-down systems, and camera registration systems for CNC cutting tables.
- Develop and implement equipment management strategies to optimize equipment lifecycle.
- Analyze equipment performance data and KPIs to identify areas for improvement and cost reduction.
- Coordinate equipment repairs and servicing with external vendors and internal teams.
- Manage OEM and third-party service relationships.
- Maintain a spare parts and consumables inventory.
- Maintain accurate maintenance records, SOPs, PM checklists, and troubleshooting guides.
- Conduct training sessions for equipment operators and maintenance personnel.
- Maintain a safe and healthy work environment, following organization standards and legal regulations.
- Ensure guarding, emergency stops, interlocks, and UV shielding are in working order.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- Three (3) or more years of hands-on maintenance and repair experience with digital printing equipment, CNC cutting or routing equipment, or comparable industrial electromechanical machinery.
- Ability to read and work from electrical and mechanical schematics and OEM service documentation.
- Proficiency in electromechanical troubleshooting, including servo and stepper drives, motion control, sensors, and wiring.
- Knowledge of mechanical, pneumatic, vacuum, and fluid systems.
- Basic PC and network skills for machine controllers.
- Knowledge of printing media, substrates, and laminates and their effect on machine behavior and defects.
- Ability to effectively communicate with production managers and team members.
- Proven time management and ability to work under pressure in a demanding, deadline-driven environment.
- Must be able to work overtime and weekends as required.
- Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, squat, kneel, and reach overhead.
- Must be able to work in confined positions inside or beneath equipment.
- Must be able to use a ladder and, where required, an elevated work platform.
- Must be able to stand and walk for most of the shift.
- Requires manual dexterity and near vision for fine mechanical work.
- Ability to distinguish color and fine detail for quality assessment.
