About the Role
The Bartender is responsible for guest service, bar setup, drink mixing, and serving food. Key duties include maintaining bar cleanliness, ensuring quality service, guest satisfaction, and managing liquor, beer, and wine inventory.
Responsibilities

- Maintain high standards of personal appearance and grooming, including wearing the proper uniform and nametag.
- Comply with Highgate Hotel Standards and regulations to encourage safe and efficient hotel operations.
- Maximize efforts towards productivity, identify problem areas, and assist in implementing solutions.
- Effectively handle problems, including anticipating, preventing, identifying, and solving them.
- Understand and apply complex information from various sources.
- Cross-train in other hotel-related areas.
- Maintain confidentiality of information.
- Show initiative, including anticipating guest or operational needs.
- Perform other duties as requested by management.
- Maintain a friendly and warm demeanor at all times.
- Process guest checks, collect cash, and process credit cards and room charges according to standards.
- Perform opening and closing side work according to standards.
- Retrieve and put away requisition for all items on the bar menu, keeping everything at par level.
- Prepare beverages and cocktails according to standards for mixing, portion control, and presentation.
- Pre-batch cocktails as per recipe book and store and rotate properly.
- Prepare and serve all kinds of hot drinks such as tea, coffee, espresso, cappuccino, and matcha.
- Serve guests with all food and beverage requirements in a warm, friendly, courteous, and professional manner.
- Ensure lounge areas are kept clean and tidy, and fully stocked with china and silver.
- Be familiar with the computer (POS) system and carry out cashiering functions.
- Follow all state liquor laws.
- Assist in maintaining beverage cost by using jigger or other measuring tools for beverage preparations.
- Follow prescribed procedures in serving liquor with care to avoid problems with intoxicated guests and report to management when necessary.
- Practice TIPS alcohol service standards.
- Complete beverage requisitions to maintain par levels as needed.
- Stock and clean glassware, including washing and polishing all bar and lounge glassware.
- Check beer and cold brew coffee tanks to ensure they are full and secured properly at the bar.
- Prep all garnishes.
- Assist in cleaning of tables and all lounge area as needed.
- Follow up, run, and serve food orders from the kitchen to the guests.
- Pre-bus and keep a neat and clean bar area throughout service.
- Remove, replace, and bus the dish bin, stocking dirty dishes and silverware neatly and quietly.
- Take and deliver to-go food and beverage orders.
- Ensure overall guest satisfaction.
- Breakdown and store all items as required.
- Be familiar with fire extinguishers, their locations, and how to use them.
- Keep bar and coffee area clean and up to NYC Health department standards, including sanitation wipes/buckets and proper use of cleaning/sanitation chemicals.
Requirements
- High school diploma or equivalent and/or experience in a hotel or a related field preferred.
- Must be of legal age to serve alcoholic beverages, according to local state laws.
- Must have TIPS, safe alcohol service certification.
- Flexibility to work weekends, holidays, and extended hours as required.
- Ability to lift up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or 20 pounds of force frequently or constantly to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects.
- Ability to stand and move around for extended period of time.
- Previous bartending experience helpful.
