About the Role
Nature's news team seeks an ambitious science reporter for a January-June 2027 internship. This is a paid, full-time writing position based in our Washington DC or New York City offices, operating on a hybrid model. Interns will cover cutting-edge science and activities at US science agencies, travel locally for stories, and write for both the website and print magazine. Initially, interns will be assigned stories, with the potential to pitch their own. They will have the opportunity to write features and should be enthusiastic about writing for an audience of researchers, administrators, and decision-makers.
Responsibilities
- Cover cutting-edge science and activities at US science agencies.
- Travel locally for stories as appropriate.
- Write for both the website and print magazine.
- Pitch own stories (eventually).
- Write features.
Requirements
- A University degree in a relevant subject.
- Background in science preferred.
- Applicants who have published science journalism articles previously or completed a science writing/journalism program will be weighted more heavily.
- Capable of working in a deadline-driven environment.
- Contributes to an inclusive, collegial work environment.
- Submit a cover letter detailing contributions and desired topics.
- Submit a resume.
- Submit 3-5 samples of published journalism (as a single PDF, no links).
