About the Role

The AELP program helps adults 18+ build foundational skills in basic education, English for speakers of other languages, and high school equivalency preparation. The Instructor will lead classes and provide administrative support, reporting to the Assistant Director of Education Programs.

Responsibilities

  • Prepare for and facilitate in-person and online classes across multiple subject areas.
  • Schedule and maintain records of intake and testing appointments.
  • Pre-screen requests for program services and make external referrals.
  • Enter participant information into Salesforce and other databases.
  • Organize and assist with TABE pre-testing and post-testing.
  • Evaluate TABE results for outcomes and gains.
  • Maintain accurate Excel spreadsheets to track student attendance and make retention calls.
  • Produce timely, accurate, routine, and high-quality reports.
  • Maintain student files in preparation for contractual audits.
  • Provide internal and external referrals to students.
  • Assist staff with administrative duties and support other programming tasks.
  • Occasionally teach work readiness and college preparation.

Requirements

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in adult education.
  • Belief that education is a path to breaking the cycle of poverty and inequity.
  • Demonstrated ability to motivate and challenge students to achieve a high level of performance.
  • Must possess a friendly, outgoing, and professional personality.
  • Must be able to maintain a high degree of discretion in dealing with confidential information.
  • Must have an excellent attendance record.
  • Show a commitment to quality and excellence.
  • Must be detail-oriented and learn quickly.
  • Must continually seek new tools, techniques, job training, and learning opportunities.
  • Establish and maintain positive and helpful rapport with students, colleagues, and program participants.
  • Maintain accurate and timely student attendance records.
  • Accurately enter information into various databases.
  • Maintain average daily attendance requirements.
  • Accurately schedule intake and testing appointments.
  • Write in a concise, straightforward style; promote and use candid communication.
  • Work independently or as part of a team.
  • Multi-task and manage time efficiently; complete assignments and commitments.

Skills

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Experience with Microsoft Word.
  • Experience with Excel.
