About the Role
Weave builds and deploys bimanual robots for customer homes. This role focuses on the electromechanical systems that integrate actuators, motor controllers, power electronics, and sensors, including the robot's base, thermal design, structure, and electrical connections.
Responsibilities
- Design electromechanical assemblies including the robot’s base, arms, structures, mounts, and enclosures, considering electronics packaging, grounding, and serviceability.
- Own the design and specifications for wire harnesses, including gauging, connector selection, routing, and strain relief.
- Manage the robot's thermal design, including heat paths, heatsinks, fans, and airflow, balancing acoustics and ingress protection.
- Design the robot’s periphery, such as charging docks, e-stop chains, lights, speakers, and buttons.
- Develop test infrastructure, including rigs, fixtures, and instrumented setups for design teams and production.
- Integrate and debug the entire robot system, identifying faults across electrical and mechanical components.
- Support builds and production, including prototype assembly, EVT/DVT builds, and collaborating with the manufacturing team on DFM/DFA and design changes.
Requirements
- Experience designing electromechanical systems that have shipped, such as robots, consumer hardware, vehicles, or appliances.
- Proficiency in mechanical design fundamentals, including CAD (Solidworks), tolerance analysis, GD&T, material selection, structural basics, and DFM for machining, molding, and sheet metal.
- Understanding of electrical fundamentals, including schematic design, harness design, grounding, shielding, and PCB layout review (KiCAD/Altium).
- Ability to iterate quickly on designs, utilizing rapid prototyping methods like 3D printing.
- Competence in using bench equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, calipers, and presses to build and instrument test setups.
- Skill in cross-domain debugging, tracing faults across electrical and mechanical boundaries.
- Willingness to take on diverse tasks as needed for robot development.
