About the Role
The Syracuse City School District is seeking dedicated individuals to assist in the care of handicapped and/or special education children. This role involves supporting students to ensure they graduate with the skills needed for college and career readiness.
Responsibilities
- Lifts students in and out of wheelchairs and onto stretchers.
- Loads and unloads handicapped children from buses, cars, or vans.
- Assists in toileting, including changing and cleaning.
- Assists in dressing and undressing children.
- Performs simple, routine clerical tasks such as filing, making notes to charts, and unskilled typing.
- Performs minor cleaning tasks.
- Assists in the physical therapy treatment of handicapped children by performing routine tasks like lifting and adjusting braces and crutches.
- Assists in preparing and setting up materials for activities.
Requirements
- Ability to lift students.
- Ability to administer simple treatments.
- Ability to perform routine clerical tasks.
Skills
- Working knowledge of materials and processes involved in moving, clothing, and caring for children with handicapping conditions.
- Ability to lift and move children with handicapping conditions.
- Ability to understand and carry out oral and written instructions.
- Ability to get along well with children with handicapping conditions.
- Strength and agility.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
