About the Role
As a student at PCL, you will get the opportunity for challenging work assignments in a supportive work environment which promotes personal and professional growth. We are seeking a Mechanical & Electrical Estimating Student for our Toronto District that is available for 4 to 8 months starting in January 2027.
Responsibilities
- Understand and utilize PCL’s estimating manuals, systems and forms.
- Review quantity survey assignment with lead estimator or Chief Estimator.
- Perform assigned quantity survey and transfer quantities to the lead estimator.
- Provide quantities of major purchase items to purchasing department for pricing.
- Perform general subtrade solicitation duties and help with bid document control.
- Perform bid day assignments.
- Visit job sites periodically.
- Develop relationships with subcontractors.
- Perform other duties as required.
Requirements
- Must have taken a building envelope or building science course, and understand the fundamental control layers required within the building envelope (i.e. air, water, vapour and thermal control).
- Must have a strong desire to work in a construction environment.
- Able to read architectural drawings.
- Prior field construction experience will be considered an asset.
- Application of various computer software programs will be required, including word processing, spreadsheet applications and drafting.
