About the Role
The Future Plant Studies (FPS) group has openings for highly motivated engineers to support the development of a new propulsion plant design for VIRGINIA Class Block VllI and the follow-on propulsion plant design for SSN(X). This is an opportunity to influence the overall design of the most advanced submarine propulsion plant ever fielded and join a program on the ground floor. The candidate will work in a structural engineering project group focused on developing future submarine propulsion plant concepts that meet challenging technical goals while minimizing costs. Responsibilities include leading teams to develop and implement new ideas and concepts for future propulsion plants, including structural concepts and analysis, and arrangement integration. Frequent interface with multiple engineering disciplines, shipyards, vendors, and government agencies is required.

- Lead teams to develop and implement new ideas and concepts for future propulsion plants.
- Develop structural concepts and perform analysis for major module structures.
- Perform arrangement integration for propulsion plants.
- Interface frequently with multiple engineering disciplines, shipyards, vendors, and government agencies.
Requirements
- Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace, or Nuclear engineering.
- Less than 5 years of post-graduate engineering work experience.
- Master of Science degree in Civil, Mechanical, Structural, Aerospace, or Nuclear engineering (Preferred).
- Experience working on propulsion plant structures (Preferred).
- Strong interpersonal, organizational, oral and written communication skills.
- Detail-oriented, highly motivated, able to work independently and interact with others.
- Ability to read and develop construction drawings, ERs, CRs, and CNs (Desired).
- Ability to derive requirements from specifications (Desired).
- Ability to make material selections (Desired).
- Ability to perform structural engineering calculations (Desired).
- Previous experience with structural design (Preferred).
