About the Role
The Access Programs Coordinator supports the development, implementation, and evaluation of access-centered educational programs and initiatives that advance the Museum's commitment to inclusive engagement and belonging. This role helps expand access to Museum experiences for people with disabilities and diverse access needs through programming, interpretive resources, audience engagement, and community partnership-building.
Responsibilities
- Organize logistics and handle administration of access initiatives for diverse audiences, including people with disabilities.
- Produce access-centered interpretive materials, including gallery activities, sensory materials, and online resources.
- Collaborate with Communications and Marketing staff to develop accessible collateral.
- Collaborate with Learning & Engagement staff to advance accessibility across all Museum programs.
- Research best practices, field developments, and prepare case studies.
- Coordinate Access Program administrative functions, including supply ordering, documentation, participant inquiries, and reporting.
- Represent the Museum in community meetings, fairs, and events to strengthen relationships with access audiences and organizations.
- Teach or facilitate access-focused programs and educational experiences.
- Provide input on Access Program goals and growth opportunities.
- Support the development of the Access Programs annual budget and quarterly reforecasts.
- Collaborate with Learning & Engagement staff on special projects.
- Participate in the selection and training of teaching artists and program staff, and supervision of department interns.
- Other duties as assigned.
Requirements

- Ability to work with close attention to detail.
- Proficiency with MS Office products (Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, SharePoint, Teams) and other related software.
- Ability to work professionally and tactfully, representing the Museum with integrity and professionalism.
- Adherence to Museum policies and support for management decisions.
- Ability to perform the essential duties satisfactorily.
- Candidates must have a BA/BFA in art, arts administration, art history, art education, African American Studies, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 2-4 years of relevant professional experience in museum education, arts and culture, community engagement, accessibility, disability inclusion, or related fields.
- Experience planning, coordinating, and implementing public-facing programs for diverse audiences.
- Position work schedule includes evening and weekend hours.
- Requires primarily local travel in and around Harlem and the 5 boroughs of New York City.
- Access program sessions take place primarily in indoor spaces, but may include outdoor spaces, requiring walking and travel by mass transit.
- Requires close vision, color vision, and the ability to adjust focus for the review of artwork and program participant images.
- Regular packing, lifting, and carrying program supplies up to 15 pounds.
