About the Role

Larkin Street Youth Services is the largest provider of housing and services to homeless youth in the Bay Area. This role focuses on providing street-based and organizational outreach services to youth ages 12-24, coordinating care, and linking youth to services. The position emphasizes creating safe and supportive relationships and utilizing a client-centered, Trauma Informed Care, and Restorative Practices framework.

Responsibilities

Provide street-based outreach services to youth ages 12-24 and organizational outreach to youth-serving organizations.
Work with a team to maintain safe and supportive spaces and coordinate care for youth accessing drop-in/engagement centers.
Provide information, referrals, and link youth within Larkin Street’s service continuum and to community-based providers.
Provide HIV/STI testing and prevention information and services.
Conduct behavioral risk assessments and harm reduction interventions.
Provide individual and group counseling to youth.
Create safe and supportive relationships and motivate youth from diverse backgrounds to consider alternatives to street life.
Assist youth by working with other programs to ensure they are moving through Larkin Street services and/or city services.
Contribute towards the care and welfare of staff and youth, including non-violent crisis intervention and de-escalation.
Practice life skills in training for youth through modeling, active counseling, and facilitation of groups.
Conduct intakes and assessments, enter data into paper-based and electronic-based data systems, and obtain additional information by coordinating with other professional sources.
Compose and distribute harm reduction kits (first aid, hygiene, menstrual, safe injection, safe smoking, safer snorting, safer sex).
Assist in the preparation of food, distribute clothing, harm reduction supplies, and snacks.
Assess clients on outreach and in the drop-in.
Accompany youth to appointments and assist them with advocacy for services.
Provide culturally responsive HIV/STI counseling, testing, outreach, and education.
Assist in the preparation and disclosure of test results.
Provide individual risk reduction counseling.
Outreach and disseminate information and resources regarding HIV awareness.
Assist in the cleaning of the drop-in/engagement spaces.
Support with outreach popup events that foster engagement opportunities for new clients.
Provide excellent customer service.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Requirements

Passionate about the Larkin Street Youth Services mission to end youth homelessness.
Embody values and core strategies: Client-Centered, Trauma Informed Care, Restorative Practices, Harm Reduction, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, Motivational Interviewing.
Some social services and/or direct-service experience.
Experience working in drop-in services, shelter, transitional, and/or permanent supportive housing programs is a bonus.
Excited to serve Transitional Aged Youth (TAY), aged 18 to 25 of diverse backgrounds.
Self-starter and team player.
Colleagues describe you as compassionate, dependable, and patient.
Willing to work holidays occasionally.
Must be fluent in Spanish and English for bilingual incentive pay.
