About the Role
The Ethics Department is seeking a full-time Ethics Teacher leave replacement for the middle and upper divisions. The role involves teaching a range of fields such as ethical learning, philosophy, sociology, cultural studies, gender studies, service learning, and public policy, with a focus on philosophy, student leadership training, community building, and health and wellness best practices.
Responsibilities
- Teach 16 class periods per week of Ethics, with the breakdown of classes dependent on teacher strengths and likely including Middle and Upper School students.
- Collaborate with colleagues by sharing resources and communicating about curriculum and students.
- Prepare for and communicate details about student performance and growth with parents and/or guardians at scheduled conferences.
- Address student behavioral issues and other challenges to maintain a safe and calm classroom environment.
- Maintain accurate student record keeping, including grades and attendance.
- Encourage students to support their social and emotional growth.
- Ensure confidentiality of student information as necessary.
- Attend all departmental, divisional, and school-wide meetings.
- Maintain compliance with all school policies, state regulations, and educational standards.
- Perform other related projects and duties as needed and assigned.
Requirements
- A Bachelor’s degree in fields related to Ethics, Leadership or Health & Wellness; Master’s degree is strongly preferred.
- A passion for teaching with a pleasant and positive demeanor toward all forms of teaching and learning.
- Ability to collaborate and build strong relationships with faculty, administrators, students, parents, and the overall community.
- Commitment to cultural competency and fostering an inclusive environment that supports students of all backgrounds.
- Prior experience working with students from grades 6 to 12 is preferred.
- Excellent verbal, written, and oral communication skills.
- A positive attitude and the ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
- Ability to manage time effectively, stay organized, and prioritize tasks.
- Commitment to ongoing professional development and proficiency in utilizing and learning new technologies (i.e., Google Workspace tools).
- Reliability, punctuality, and consistent attendance.
- Ability to cultivate a welcoming culture where all community members feel valued and appreciated.
