About the Role
We are seeking a Senior Data Engineer to contribute to the data platform powering key Atom Learning products. Data at Atom is integral to customer-facing features, personalizing learning, and providing insights to educators. You will be a key specialist in data engineering, managing data collection, transformation, modeling, and availability. Your role will involve contributing to data-powered product features and enabling other teams to utilize data effectively.
Responsibilities
- Build and evolve data foundations for customer-facing products, including predictive features, adaptive learning, and assessment insights.
- Own the design, development, and improvement of reliable, scalable data pipelines and models.
- Shape the technical direction of the data platform and enhance data flow between application, warehouse, and product surfaces.
- Build clean, well-tested, and reusable solutions using Python, SQL, and dbt.
- Improve data quality, observability, and reliability for team trust.
- Collaborate with product, engineering, commercial teams, and educational experts to understand problems, shape solutions, and measure impact.
- Create clear models, tooling, and patterns to make data easily self-serviceable for engineers and teams.
- Utilize AI tools and agents for research, prototyping, investigation, and faster solution development.
- Contribute beyond the data layer to solve problems effectively, including product features, APIs, internal tools, or automation.
- Review code, share expertise, and elevate data engineering standards across Atom.
- Mentor other engineers and develop data capability within the wider engineering team.
Requirements

- Experience with cloud data warehouses, orchestration tools, and transformation frameworks.
- Take end-to-end ownership of problems from discovery through implementation, monitoring, and continuous improvement.
- Turn ambiguous requirements into practical solutions, balancing speed, quality, and scalability.
- Communicate clearly with technical and non-technical colleagues, making complex data problems understandable.
- Confidently use AI tools and agents for learning, investigation, and building.
- Be comfortable working beyond a narrowly defined specialization when required by the problem.
