About the Role

ICON is seeking a Sr. Design Technologist to build tooling and data structures that streamline the use of ICON's building products and system capabilities within design platforms like Revit and comparable BIM/CAD environments. This role will increasingly apply LLM-driven and agentic tooling to translate design intent into an ICON-compatible design, executing within the Product Roadmap architecture.

Responsibilities

  • Serve as a subject-matter expert on industry-standard digital design platforms and workflows (Revit, Rhino, AutoCAD, ArchiCAD, etc.), providing context for software feature and product decisions.
  • Own the execution and evolution of digital design integrations, families, plugins, scripts, or data structures that surface ICON's building products within design platforms.
  • Build and maintain LLM-driven or agentic tooling within design tools (e.g., BIM plugins, internal design-automation scripts, prototypes) for ICON's internal design environment.
  • Define and maintain design rulesets and BIM input parameters for software development.
  • Establish and maintain QA and validation protocols for released design integrations, including versioned releases and regression coverage.
  • Review building product requirements and identify necessary revisions or additions to design integrations and tooling.
  • Partner with the Software team on features requiring BIM and computational-geometry input, contributing technical specifications and implementation review.
  • Work with the product team to identify hardware technology requirements to be surfaced through design integrations and their data.
  • Coordinate testing of the Software team's implementation of building products with domain technical leads.
  • Engage in technical discovery with internal and customer-facing teams, translating workflow friction into candidate product requirements.
  • Author and maintain technical reference documentation and usage standards for design integrations and tooling.
  • Identify and propose new tool or process integrations, including physical-to-digital and digital-to-physical bridging opportunities.
  • Provide regular progress and status updates on design integrations, tooling, and ruleset work to leadership.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in Architecture, Architectural Engineering, Building Science, Computer Science, or a related field with a strong technical focus.
  • 8+ years of related experience in BIM-driven design, design-to-fabrication workflows, or construction technology platforms; or 6+ years with a Master's; or 3+ years with a Ph.D.
  • Advanced proficiency in Revit and complementary BIM/CAD authoring tools, with a demonstrated track record of shipping design integrations (families, plugins, or scripts) into production use.
  • Demonstrated software delivery experience, including shipping internal tools or platform features against a release cadence.
  • Strong understanding of construction and design industry practices, including structural systems, architectural design, and construction sequencing.
  • Proven ability to translate architectural and building-science requirements into technical specifications for software collaboration.
