Responsibilities
- Be visible and actively greet, engage, and assist customers.
- Process customer transactions quickly, accurately, and efficiently.
- Understand the Point of Sale (POS) system and handle various tenders.
- Adhere to company limits on cash shortages and/or overages to control loss.
- Understand and adhere to guidelines on restricted sale items.
- Report pricing discrepancies to the Scan Coordinator.
- Follow established policies and procedures for postage stamps, gift cards, and coupons.
- Stay current with present, future, seasonal, and special ads.
- Adhere to all food safety regulations and guidelines.
- Reinforce safety programs by complying with safety procedures and identifying unsafe conditions.
- Practice preventive maintenance by inspecting equipment and notifying management of needed repairs.
- Create a welcoming environment by answering customer questions.
- Adhere to all local, state, and federal laws, and company guidelines.
- Work cooperatively in a high-paced and sometimes stressful environment.
- Manage conflict in a reasonable, nonconfrontational, and cooperative manner.
- Act with honesty and integrity regarding customer and business information.
- Follow directions and seek assistance to resolve customer and business issues.
- Provide support and assistance through direct interaction with minors, individuals with special needs, and older adults.
- Perform essential functions with or without reasonable accommodation.
Requirements
- Customer service experience
- Effective communication skills
- Knowledge of basic math (counting, addition, and subtraction)
- Prior experience as a Bagger or Courtesy Clerk
Skills
- Point of Sale (POS) system operation
- Handling cash, checks, credit, debit, SNAP EBT, WIC, and rain checks
- Coupon and loyalty offer processing
- Food safety regulations
- Basic math skills
