About the Role
Pride in London seeks an experienced, creative, and forward-thinking marketing professional to join as a volunteer Head of Marketing. This senior leadership role is responsible for developing and executing the organization's marketing strategy, safeguarding the brand, and ensuring campaigns authentically reflect the diversity and priorities of LGBTQIA+ communities. The role involves collaborating with various teams to translate strategy into compelling campaigns, leading the volunteer marketing team, and coordinating external agencies. Success requires a blend of strategic thinking, creative ambition, and practical campaign execution.
Responsibilities
- Develop and maintain the organization-wide marketing strategy in collaboration with the CEO and relevant leaders.
- Translate purpose, values, and strategic priorities into clear marketing objectives and annual delivery plans.
- Develop integrated marketing campaigns supporting year-round events, programs, and community activities.
- Provide strategic marketing advice to the CEO and leadership team.
- Ensure marketing activity is coordinated, prioritized, and delivered within timelines and budgets.
- Identify opportunities to strengthen visibility, relevance, and impact.
- Maintain a clear distinction between organizational brand, annual campaign, and program/event identities.
- Report regularly to the CEO on progress, performance, risks, and opportunities.
- Lead the development and delivery of the annual campaign and supporting marketing activity.
- Develop clear, inclusive, and insight-led campaign briefs in collaboration with key stakeholders.
- Ensure each campaign has defined objectives, audiences, messages, channels, delivery plans, and success measures.
- Oversee the development of campaign concepts, creative assets, and supporting materials across digital and physical channels.
- Establish realistic campaign timelines and coordinate approvals.
- Ensure campaigns are delivered consistently across events, programs, platforms, and partner activity.
- Monitor campaign delivery and address risks, delays, or inconsistencies.
- Evaluate campaign reach, engagement, and impact to improve future activity.
- Act as the principal guardian of the Pride in London brand.
- Develop, maintain, and review the brand strategy, visual identity, and guidelines.
- Ensure consistent, accurate, and appropriate brand usage across all teams, channels, events, and programs.
- Make brand standards accessible to volunteers, staff, suppliers, sponsors, and partners.
- Establish processes for reviewing and approving the use of the brand name, logo, and assets.
- Protect brand integrity and reputation while enabling creative work.
- Work with the Head of Legal to support the protection, licensing, and use of intellectual property.
- Identify and address inappropriate, inconsistent, or unauthorized brand use.
- Ensure LGBTQIA+ communities and their lived experiences are meaningfully reflected in marketing.
- Collaborate with Community Engagement and other groups to inform campaign development.
- Build consultation and community insight into the marketing and campaign planning process.
- Ensure marketing activity represents the breadth and intersectionality of LGBTQIA+ communities with care, authenticity, and respect.
- Challenge stereotypes, tokenism, and exclusionary representation in creative work.
- Embed accessibility and inclusive design principles throughout marketing activity.
- Ensure creative materials consider the needs of disabled and neurodivergent individuals.
- Respond constructively to community feedback and inform future campaigns.
- Develop a clear understanding of different audiences, including LGBTQIA+ communities, volunteers, attendees, partners, allies, and the public.
- Commission or oversee research to inform brand, audience, and campaign decisions.
- Use data, community insight, and external research to identify audience needs, behaviors, and trends.
- Develop audience profiles and segmentation for more relevant and effective marketing.
- Establish responsible methods for gathering audience feedback.
- Ensure research is inclusive, ethically undertaken, and compliant with data protection.
- Present research findings and recommendations to the CEO and relevant teams.
- Develop an integrated approach to marketing across digital platforms (website, email, social media).
- Collaborate with Communications and Digital teams to plan content supporting campaigns and priorities.
- Ensure content is accurate, accessible, engaging, and consistent with brand and values.
- Identify appropriate opportunities for paid, owned, and earned marketing activity.
- Use data to improve reach, engagement, and conversion.
- Ensure campaign assets are created in suitable formats for different channels and audiences.
- Support the development of clear calls to action.
- Stay informed about changes in audience behavior, digital platforms, and marketing practices.
- Develop marketing plans to support the annual event and year-round program.
- Coordinate with Events and Operations teams to understand program information, audiences, deadlines, and constraints.
- Coordinate marketing support for events like the parade, stages, community spaces, and Pride in the City.
- Ensure event information is promoted clearly, accurately, and timely.
- Support audience communications regarding access, safety, travel, and participation.
- Help ensure marketing activity supports attendance and engagement while reflecting capacities and operational realities.
- Be available during key delivery periods for urgent marketing decisions.
- Support high-quality marketing activations for sponsors and strategic partners.
- Ensure partner activity aligns with brand, values, community commitments, and contractual obligations.
- Review and approve partner use of brand and campaign assets.
- Help establish clear processes, briefs, and timelines for sponsor marketing activity.
- Balance commercial commitments with brand independence, purpose, and community credibility.
- Address potential reputational, contractual, or brand risks with relevant colleagues.
- Monitor delivery of agreed marketing benefits and provide reporting.
- Identify needs for external creative, research, production, or marketing support.
- Develop clear briefs for agencies, designers, researchers, and suppliers.
- Support supplier selection and appointment.
- Work with Legal and budget holders to agree contracts, deliverables, and terms.
- Manage supplier relationships and ensure work is delivered on time, within budget, and to standard.
- Provide constructive creative direction and feedback.
- Escalate significant delivery, quality, financial, or contractual concerns.
- Establish meaningful key performance indicators (KPIs) for marketing activity.
- Monitor performance across campaigns, channels, audiences, and programs.
- Develop regular reports on reach, engagement, audience growth, conversion, brand health, and campaign impact.
- Use quantitative data and qualitative feedback to assess effectiveness.
- Communicate findings, risks, and recommendations to the CEO and leaders.
- Use evaluation and learning to strengthen future campaigns and inform resource decisions.
- Ensure reporting is proportionate, accurate, and focused on outcomes.
- Develop and manage the marketing budget in collaboration with the CEO and Head of Finance.
- Plan marketing expenditure carefully for value and impact.
- Monitor spending against budgets and report variances.
- Ensure expenditure and supplier commitments are authorized and documented.
- Identify opportunities for in-kind, pro bono, or partner support.
- Prioritize resources against agreed objectives and campaign requirements.
- Lead, support, and develop the volunteer marketing team.
