About the Role
AMC Global Media is seeking a Director, Product Data Architecture to join their Streaming Product & Operations team. This role focuses on the end-to-end design of streaming product data, from production and modeling to storage and serving, including assessment and recommendations for the current data architecture.
Responsibilities
- Design the end-to-end product data architecture, assessing current lakehouse implementation and recommending a path forward.
- Establish a canonical metric and semantic layer for product data with producer-side enforcement and a governance model.
- Design event taxonomy and schema across web, mobile, and connected TV clients.
- Own the technical evaluation and recommendation of the product data and analytics stack, including CDP and analytics footprint.
- Define product data domains including subscription, identity, content, catalog, viewership, engagement, advertising, monetization, and promotional data.
- Design aggregation and reconciliation models for subscriber state across multiple purchase channels.
- Develop integration architecture for distribution and platform partners, ad and billing systems, and outbound feeds.
- Create models and interfaces for BI, experimentation, personalization, and machine learning use cases.
- Implement data quality monitoring, lineage, SLAs, and an incident model for product data.
- Incorporate privacy and compliance requirements such as consent propagation, data retention, and PII handling into the architecture.
- Manage compute and storage economics of the product data platform and associated tradeoffs.
- Establish engineering standards for product data work, including modeling conventions, review patterns, and technical bar.
- Mentor engineers on technical craft within product data.
Requirements
- 8+ years of experience in designing and operating modern data platforms at scale.
- Experience designing and operating modern data platforms at scale, including lakehouse or equivalent architectures (Databricks, Snowflake, Iceberg, Delta, or similar), through at least one full lifecycle.
- Depth in dimensional and semantic modeling of product and behavioral data, with a clear point of view on metric layers and data contracts.
- Fluency with event-driven and behavioral data: instrumentation design, schema governance, and failure modes of client-side event collection.
- Track record as the technical owner of platform and vendor recommendations, including building the case and defending it to executive stakeholders.
- Experience as an embedded partner to product management and product engineering, shaping instrumentation and definitions during the product development process.
- Still writes and reviews code and designs.
- Excellent communication skills and executive presence, with the ability to translate architectural tradeoffs into business terms for senior leadership.
- Leads through influence across engineering, product, analytics, and vendor partners.
- Experience modeling subscription and billing data across multiple purchase channels, including direct billing and app store in-app purchase, and reconciling entitlement and revenue data.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Data Engineering or related technical field OR equivalent work experience.
