About the Role

The Staffing Operations Manager oversees the firm's Staffing & Workforce Deployment function, reviewing and validating deployment decisions, resolving complex staffing requests, and setting the strategic direction for talent flow across the firm. This role involves reviewing daily decisions, navigating difficult calls, and communicating with practice leadership. The Manager also leads longer-term initiatives such as staffing technology evaluation, talent skills database development, staffing analytics, utilization reporting, and monthly project balancing.

Responsibilities

  • Review staffing placement decisions and approve, redirect, or escalate as appropriate.
  • Resolve contested or complex staffing requests, including cross-practice conflicts, competing priorities, and specialized skill requirements.
  • Navigate decision paths and communicate with practice leadership on difficult or sensitive staffing calls.
  • Own the federated staffing governance model, managing request escalations.
  • Drive and report on staffing analytics, including utilization, bench time, deployment patterns, and variances.
  • Proactively raise utilization concerns to leadership with recommended corrective actions.
  • Own monthly project balancing across the firm for equitable and optimal deployment.
  • Monitor engagement pacing throughout the month, tracking utilization against the planned staffing.
  • Assess engagement trends against demand targets and escalate pacing risks.
  • Report pacing status by engagement, CoE, and geography.
  • Receive demand forecasts and translate them into staffing projections and deployment plans.
  • Coordinate proactively with Revenue Intelligence on pipeline signals and demand changes.
  • Feed in-month pacing data back to Revenue Intelligence to inform revenue forecasts.
  • Surface staffing deviation and pacing gaps impacting billing operations.
  • Coordinate on redeployment scenarios to convert uncaptured demand into billable revenue.
  • Flag headcount changes affecting the active invoicing pipeline.
  • Provide utilization, headcount, and capacity data to FP&A for financial models and reporting.
  • Surface bench time and overallocation patterns affecting margin.
  • Own staffing input into firmwide headcount planning.
  • Coordinate on capacity cost assumptions during annual planning.
  • Raise hiring signals based on staffing analytics revealing capacity shortfalls or skill gaps.
  • Provide demand-driven headcount projections to inform Recruiting's pipeline planning.
  • Coordinate on onboarding logistics for new hires.
  • Partner on the talent skills database to align Recruiting needs with firm scaling.
  • Lead evaluation and selection of staffing technology / resource management applications.
  • Own implementation and adoption of the chosen staffing platform.
  • Lead build-out of the firm's talent skills database.
  • Ensure the skills database is maintained, adopted, and integrated into staffing decisions.
  • Own staffing policies, processes, and governance documentation.
  • Manage and develop the staffing team.
  • Build the team's capability as the firm expands.
  • Ensure the Associate has the necessary tools, context, and decision frameworks.

Requirements

  • 5–7 years of experience in resource management, workforce planning, or staffing operations, preferably within professional services or consulting.
  • Strong analytical skills; comfortable driving staffing analytics and presenting findings to senior and executive leadership.
  • Experience evaluating or implementing resource management technology; familiarity with Salesforce and CRM platforms preferred.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Excellent judgment on complex staffing decisions; able to navigate ambiguity, competing priorities, and sensitive situations with discretion.
  • High professional and ethical standards; experienced handling confidential information appropriately.
  • Natural collaborator and people-person; able to work effectively with practice leaders, HR, Finance, L&D, and executive leadership.
  • Able to work independently and provide guidance to senior stakeholders across operational areas.
  • Organized, deadline-oriented, and comfortable managing ad hoc projects as business needs emerge.
  • Enthusiastic self-starter who thrives in a fast-paced, growing environment.
