Responsibilities

Contribute to our award winning Android app and internal tooling
Build new features and products from scratch in a configurable way
Share your knowledge with those around you, contributing to our learning culture
Own your projects, working in small teams across the bank to collaboratively deliver
Aim for greatness in everything you do, staying curious and inquisitive
Be part of a scaling team and organisation as we change banking for good
Commit, review, and ship new code
Understand and prioritize security when implementing new features, fixing bugs or making technical improvements
Focus on Accessibility and writing clean, maintainable code
Deliver stable, resilient, and high-quality code
Test features using Espresso for UI/E2E tests and JUnit for Unit Tests
Manually test all features before they go into production
Work closely with QA engineers to ensure an additional level of testing
Build SDKs for clients utilizing existing modules
Support the development of an app in Romania with Salt Bank
Build an entirely new banking app for AMP Bank in Australia
Maintain libraries, contribute to OSS, or deal with Internationalisation
Work closely with designers to set up a component library and theme the app
Build Android and iOS apps alongside each other to ensure feature parity
Meet weekly to discuss pain points and potential improvements
Regularly meet in real life to attend conferences and meet-ups

Requirements

Engine by Starling engineers are excited about helping us deliver new features, regardless of what their primary tech stack may be
People being engaged and caring about customers, caring about the code they write and the contribution they make to banking worldwide
People with a broad ability to apply themselves to a multitude of problems and challenges, who can work across teams
Self-driven individual able to take full ownership of everything around you
Experience maintaining a library, contributing to OSS, or dealing with Internationalisation is a plus
Good understanding of a wide range of libraries and technologies
Experience with Dagger, Realm, Retrofit, Coil, Compose, Coroutines
Understanding of migrating from XML layouts and RxJava2
Experience with Espresso to write UI/E2E Tests
Experience with JUnit to write Unit Tests
Ability to understand and prioritize security
Particular focus on Accessibility
Writing clean and maintainable code
Testing is a key quality
Ability to make decisions necessary for the project
Ability to provide insight to the team leads
Working closely with other Android engineers with a variety of experience levels and interests
