About the Role
This is a building maintenance and repair position responsible for maintaining buildings and property in quality condition. The technician performs repairs and conducts preventive and regular maintenance of buildings, furniture, fixtures, and equipment.
Responsibilities
- Performs all work orders as assigned by Director or Coordinator
- Ensures that premises and equipment are well maintained, clean, and safe; inspecting work of technicians and providing feedback to director
- May be available after hours to respond to emergency situations pertaining to heating failure, water leaks, and inclement weather concerns and share on-call responsibilities with the director
- Administers approved procedures as it pertains to assignment of tasks, use of equipment, safety, preventative maintenance and repairs
- Ensures the efficient and prompt handling of all department work
- Performs from start to completion any and all of facilities related work orders
- Daily tasks may include general carpentry, remodeling, electrical, plumbing, painting, safety, locks, repair of any and all types of appliances & equipment typical to all residential & commercial facilities
- Ensures Mission grounds are well-groomed and clean
Requirements

- Must be a self-starter, able to work well alone or with others, including volunteers and students
- Ability to work evenings and/or weekends
- Meets and deals tactfully and courteously with donors, employees, volunteers, students, guests and vendors
- Appropriately handles frequent changes, delays and unexpected events
- Remains calm in a crisis or emergency situation
- Able to read and write; and communicate via email
- Must hold a current and valid New York State Driver's License
- Willing to authorize a driver's record and background check
- Physically fit, knowledge of safe handling and lifting techniques
- Unless otherwise noted as non-driving, all facility workers are expected to know how to operate ODM fleet vehicles
- The driver must have a clean driving record to be approved per insurance standards, which includes a check for DUI/DWI, history of a suspended license, and/or vehicular manslaughter
Skills
- Safety conscious with a good knowledge of facility operation and general maintenance
- Skilled with power tools
