About the Role
As VP of System Applications (Logistics Robotics), you will own the technology and organizational strategy for our robot and logistics operation platform end-to-end. You will set technical direction, build and lead the team responsible for delivering it, and be accountable for business outcomes including budget, hiring, delivery, and cross-functional alignment.
Responsibilities
- Build, structure, and grow the engineering organization, owning hiring, interviewing, and onboarding decisions.
- Manage, coach, and develop engineers and engineering managers, setting OKRs and building career paths.
- Own final decision-making on solution architecture and technical direction across the platform.
- Drive technical strategy and architectural decisions for scalability, security, and cost-efficiency.
- Own and manage the engineering budget, including headcount planning, tooling, and vendor decisions.
- Translate business requirements and product roadmap into engineering plans, timelines, and resourcing decisions.
- Partner closely with Automation, Hardware, QA/QC, and Business teams for alignment.
- Represent engineering in cross-functional planning to ensure platform roadmap supports milestones.
- Work with Business stakeholders to understand operational needs and translate them into technical requirements.
- Gather and analyze requirements for applications and guide software architecture decisions.
- Oversee the design, implementation, and delivery of the robot management system's GUI and backend services.
- Guide the architecture of cloud-hosted services on Azure for robot operation and warehouse management.
- Continuously drive investment in better UI/UX, performance, and reliability.
- Ensure new functionality is validated with actual robots and store environments before release.
- Work towards scalable solutions that can be reused in various upcoming solutions.
Requirements
- 8+ years of professional experience as a software engineer with full-stack responsibility.
- 3+ years in an engineering management or leadership role.
- Track record of building and scaling engineering teams, including hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers/managers.
- Strong, hands-on experience with C# (.NET) development and TypeScript.
- Professional experience with cloud platforms, particularly Microsoft Azure.
- Experience with frontend application development (web or game-engine based UI).
- Experience in software development on Linux and Windows OS.
- Experience releasing applications to production.
- Experience with team development using Git.
- Experience developing an app from scratch with UI/UX in mind.
- Strong knowledge of software architecture patterns such as Clean Architecture.
- Full development to release to maintenance lifecycle experience.
- Creative mindset and strong problem-solving skills.
- Ability to balance technical depth with business pragmatism.
- Functional English language skills.
- Conversational Japanese language skills.
- Prior experience in robotics, logistics, or hardware-adjacent industries (Nice to Have).
- Knowledge of gRPC, MQTT, WebSocket, or similar communication protocols (Nice to Have).
- Experience with Blazor (Nice to Have).
- Experience with Unity/C# or other game-engine UI development (Nice to Have).
- Experience with ROS development or robotics/IoT edge devices (Nice to Have).
- Familiarity with additional cloud platforms (AWS, GCP) (Nice to Have).
- Reactive Programming and Dependency Injection experience (Nice to Have).
- Experience integrating telemetry and monitoring systems for distributed environments (Nice to Have).
- Experience with B2B applications (Nice to Have).
